Property Reviews

September 2017
Beautiful property in amongst a very nice neighbourhood. Very peaceful and charming. Excellent location to explore the Margaret River region. Definitely recommended.

August 2017
Had a very short stay for business but was very pleased. Would love to come back to stay longer. Great location. Beautiful house and grounds. Would definitely recommend.

June 2017
An extremely cosy cottage, easy to keep clean for the duration of our stay and an absolute joy and delight to wake up each morning to the whistling of the Golden Whistler and Purple Crowned Lorikeets! So wonderful for me as I am on my own and the garden was safe for the girls to play and explore in whist I enjoyed a delicious Yahava Coffee on the patio. Very easy to find everything and so lovely to be able to stroll into town so easily. So peaceful and private; just what we were needing!

May 2017
Great location quiet and confortable.

April 2017
Lovely place in a great setting. Great back yard and plenty of room for kids to play. Quiet but central location. Beautiful home and well laid out. Definitely a good stay and enjoyable vibe.

March 2017
Each morning, sitting at the back table having breakfast in the sunshine and watching tiny wrens flitting through the trees was the start of our days. This beautiful cottage is a 3 minute drive to the town of Margaret River W.A. and well placed to use Caves Road to drive north to Dunsborough and Cape Naturaliste or drive south to Augusta and Cape Leeuwin lighthouse...plus caves, galleries, beaches and of course wineries and providores. We used 2 of the 3 bedrooms... both comfortable queen sized... plus the large open plan living, dining and kitchen areas. All were well equipped and very comfortable. The cottage is surrounded by trees and shrubs and is quite private and very quiet. There is also a good laundry, bathroom, carport and barbecue . Coffee and chocolate were welcoming gifts. Key collection and return was via a coded box. Communication was excellent and prompt. If you want a little slice of heaven, then this is it !

We rate your Westwood Cottage 5 stars out of 5.
Because it rained heavily during our 3 night stay, we really enjoyed using the pot belly fire place. In this context, my Swiss wife and children found that the cottage had a lovely Swiss Alp chalet feel.
The cottage included everything we needed, and had a very nice kitchen and living area.
We can recommend to other travellers going to the Margaret River area.

July 2016
We stayed in Westwood Cottage, as a family of four,  for a four night winter break in July.  It is a beautiful and comfortable cottage with the feeling of seclusion, which we loved.  I was pleased to find it was very clean, with good bed linen and lovely large towels. The pot belly kept the house very warm and cosy and there was everything we needed for a very enjoyable holiday. I would highly recommend this cottage as a place to stay down south.

May 2016
This was our second stay at Westwood Cottage and it was excellent as always. The house is always well presented and clean with a good supply of wood and kindling for the fire. The 30 minute walk to town is good for a morning stroll and coffee otherwise you can just sit by the fire and relax reading a good book. Would definitely stay again.

December 2015
Westwood was perfect for our short vacation. Very close to M.R, central for all beaches north and south and above all peaceful. The cottage is very well equiped with a lovely terrace and wooded garden. I would recommend it to anyone. We were a couple with a 16 month old toddler.

August 2015
We spent 3 wintery days at Westwood Cottage and had a lovely time. We have stayed in lots of different holiday houses in the WA south-west region and this home was by far the cleanest and most well-stocked house we have stayed in. A good amount of wood, including small pieces, an axe, paper and plenty of matches were all provided (we have stayed in houses before with enormous pieces of wood and no axe!). There was fresh yahava coffee, coffee plunger, tea, sugar, glad wrap, alfoil, salt, pepper, tea towels, cloths, dishwashing liquid, soap and all the little things you want to make your stay easy and very comfortable. A very well supplied and spacious holiday house kitchen. The house was extremely clean and the correspondence from House Down South was excellent. The beds were comfortable with plenty of extra blankets on hand. It's a great location - close to town but has the feel of a bush block. Nice and quiet area. I'd definitely stay here or in another House Down South property again.

April 2015
We had a fantastic stay at Westwood Cottage, the house is well set up and all the kitchen utensils and cooking equipment in very clean condition.

One of the advantages of staying here is you have a very tranquil setting and yet you are only 2Klms from town, we got a cab several times for a $10 fare you can have a few wines without a worry.

Great place we will be back

February 2015
A lovely peaceful holiday home set in huge grounds. The house was comfortably furnished and the kitchen very well equipped. The location was ideal, close to town but very peaceful. We throughly enjoyed the Margaret river area, there is so much to do and the food and wine in the area is amazing. We would certainly stay in this area again and use this company to source our accommodation.

December 2014
The place was lovely, perfect for the 4 of us and conveniently located close to the town centre and many of the local wineries and breweries. Despite being in such a convenient location, the house is on a fairly large property, it's very quiet, there's a lot of surrounding nature and is very peaceful. The house was well stocked with crockery, cooking equipment bathroom supplies, etc. I would definitely stay at Westwood Cottage again and will be recommending it to any friends planning on going down south.

September 2014
Lovely house. Very comfortable and warm. We really appreciated the wood burner as it was wet and windy for the first few days. The view from the patio was pretty with fruit trees showing off their spring blossoms. We are dog lovers, so regular visits from the retrievers from next door made us feel right at home. The kitchen was well equipped and we enjoyed tthe Yahava coffe sample. We could have done with more bath mats and towels for a week long stay as due to the weather it was difficult to get them dry.

August 2014
We enjoyed staying at Westwood cottage!! It is such a lovely house! My little boy enjoyed playing in the big garden and we loved Alfie the dogs visits!! Thank you so much for a great establishment! Will promote you back home in Esperance!!

August 2014
Wonderful house, well equipped with a beautiful large backyard the kids loved. So many beautiful birds, peaceful and calm and the neighbours were lovely. The kids did not want to leave. Within a very short drive or ride to town. We will definitely go back.
Thank you it was just what we needed. :)

July 2014
We really enjoyed our 3 night stay at Westwood Cottage in July. A lovely, clean, comfortable home in a peaceful location with pleasant outdoors.  We were very cosy with the wood fire in the evenings and had everything we needed in the kitchen.

June 2014
Hi Justine,
My partner and I came down in June for a week and were blown away by how beautiful the house was the moment we drove up the drive way. To top off our arrival we were greeted by Alfie (the local golden retriever). He is the most gorgeous neighbor you will ever have, and he visits most mornings.

The house was amazing and more than anything you could wish for. It's super cosy, well maintained and clean. We would have loved to stay longer if we could have as we didn't want to leave. Truly, Westwood Cottage was just perfect.

May 2014
We had a wonderful weekend at Westwood Cottage over the long WA Day weekend. Cottage is beautiful, had everything we needed, was convenient for visiting the local area. The boys loved the big garden and Alfie's visits! We'd definitely stay again. Clare&Paul Harrison, Perth, WA

March 2014
We spent a very happy 5 nights at Westwood Cottage, which was the perfect base for exploring the Margaret River region. The cottage was spacious and comfortable with a large back garden that looked out onto the bush beneath ghost gums and as much birdlife as you could wish for.

We would definitely recommend Westwood Cottage to groups of 6 or less. It is far enough from the centre of Margaret River to feel that you were out in the bush but close enough (2km) to town to be on the pick up routes for the wine tours or to walk home to from a good meal out.

February 2014
Our stay at the Westwood Cottage was the start of 5 week trip to WA. We have fond memories of our stay and hope to return again. The accommodation was clean and fully functional with all the linen, dining, cooking, cleaning items needed to make our stay easy. Thank you for your assistance and prompt responses.

September 2013
Very nice location. Quiet locality yet close to town. Enough place for kids to play around. Alive with birds in the mornings.....I am glad to have chosen the place to stay.

July 2013
Westwood Cottage in Margaret River was perfect for our stay. It is well located and very comfortable, quiet and relaxing. The block has an abundance of bird life and we would definitely stay again in the future and would recommend to prospective visitors.

May 2013
The location was fantatic, close to town yet you felt like you were in the bush.  Our little boy loved to go for an adventure in the bush/backyard.

March 2013
We had a lovely stay at Weswood Cottage. The house was cosy and spacious and had a beautiful cottage feel. It was a very close drive into the Margaret river town centre, yet we felt we were tucked away from the hustle and bustle – lovely and quiet, very relaxing.

We would definitely book Westwood Cottage again.

December 2012
Our family absolutely loved Westwood Cottage!  The open plan living, warm feel of rammed earth and spacious lawn won us all over.  There was plenty of room for everyone to spread out.  We definitely recommend it and can't wait to return ;0)

December 2012
Great communication and service from House Down South.

Absolutely lovely cottage, nice and quiet location only a few minutes drive from the town.
Would love to stay again.

November 2012
We loved our stay at Westwood Cottage.  It was just so peaceful on our own private two acres of gardens and trees with abundant bird life.  The beauty of the house is that it is only a five minute drive to the town of Margaret River with its shopping and restaurants.  It is also in the middle of the vineyards and a short drive to the beach.

The only negative thing we found was that it had only a doona, bedspread combination for our bed.  This would be fine for most of the year but in summer and the in-between times it is far too hot.  However you still need something more than a sheet.  We ended up buying a cotton blanket fron Target.  This we felt should be a standard provision for bedding particularly as we are from Queensland and could not bring an item like this with us.

Other than that it is a wonderful house and we  really enjoyed our holiday.

(House Down South - we appreciate the feedback and have been pleased to provide the cotton blankets)

November 2012
The few days spent in Westwood cottage were thoroughly enjoyed. The house and gardens are very nice indeed. It was perfect for a few days to visit Margaret River with my family.

September 2012
We really enjoyed our stay at Westwood Cottage.  The weather was perfect to enjoy sitting outside while the kids ran around like little maniacs.  Watching the abundant birdlife was also a huge hit with the kids.  Everything we needed was supplied, the house was spotless on arrival & the beds were very comfortable.  The wood fire heater was constantly used due to the cold nights and there was ample firewood to keep us all warm & cosy.  The close proximity to town allowed us to enjoy the Farmers Market on the Saturday which was not good for the waistline!!  We would have no hesitation in recommending this property to friends & family & look forward to our next break in the beautiful Margaret River region.   Many thanks,  Nicole Taylor

July 2012
Hi Justine and Ben
We had a really enjoyable stay in Westwood Cottage.  I love all the woodwork, great big windows and the sense of light and openess that the home provides.  Its very well equipped but an oven proof baking dish (as opposed to a large metal pan) would be great as i bought down a meal that required a bit more baking time. (House Down South - we appreciate your comments and a baking dish has now been provided)

It felt a tad chilly when we first arrived and, due to the open-plan layout and high ceilings, it took a while for the potbelly to warm the place up. However, this layout will be great come summer time.

I loved all the birds, big trees, bushes and flowers in the garden which gave the place a very personal feel, as opposed to the often sterile appearance of so many holiday places.  I can see that, when it was built, a lot of love and careful thought was put into the design.

I also want to thank you for allowing us to stay on a bit longer on Sunday morning. It meant that we could have a leisurely breakfast, coffee at the Urban Bean then lunch before setting off back home to Fremantle.  I will certainly recommend Westwood Cottage to my friends.

kind regards nanette

June 2012
We really enjoyed our long weekend at Westwood cottage - the house was perfect for a family, well equipped and comfortable, and the woodfire was a treat.  The setting is great, wonderful gardens and bush yet close to the town.

March 2012
Have stayed at Westwood Cottage now a few times over the years.  Never disappoints!  Great location close to Margaret River township, wineries and the beach.

Really enjoyed it again, will be back!

Westwood cottage has everything you want for a holiday home.  (The only thing we thought was missing was a clock on the wall).  The kitchen was very well equiped.  The beds were very comfortable.  It was very close to the town but it was very peaceful and quiet.

We enjoyed it very much and had a very relaxing time.  Thanks very much.

(House Down South - we appreciate your feedback. A clock has now been provided)

December 2011
Central location yet serene and secluded setting.

Westwood Cottage is a great getaway and we will be staying there when we visit Margaret River again.

August 2011
Just like the pictures!! Had a lovely relaxing time - just wished that we had longer than the 2 days we had booked.  Our 2 young boys (aged 2 & 4) had a great time helping to collect the sticks for the fire, not to mention having their own "special" room upstairs.

The house was very well appointed, so close to town, yet still had the peace and quiet of the country.  We could even see the lorikeets in the back yard.

Westwood cottage has everything that you want in a home away from home.  Kitchen had everything needed to cook a beautiful meal, and more than enough blankets through out to make us all cosie.

We will be back for sure...... it's just a matter of when can we get time off again.

Thanks for everything.

Jodie & Family.

October 2010
Westwood Cottage is stunning. The house itself is a rammed earth and wood construction, clearly built with care and attention. Lots of detailing shows that someone really loves this place. It is a great mix of modern and traditional. From the main room, the doors open up onto the patio and overlook the fantastic garden, which is mostly open lawn with mature trees. We saw 2 beautiful blue wrens (2 males) and a variety of other bird life.

The main bedroom also faces the rear garden, with big picture windows. We enjoyed sitting in bed with a cup of tea in the morning as the sun lit up the shrubs and trees. Breakfast on the patio was wonderful, as was dinner!

Westwood Cottage is also close enough to town to walk in for dinner in the evening, if you want a glass or two of local wine. There are also one or two wineries in walking distance if you're keen, although we loved the local organised winery tour...no need to worry about who is driving! Check out Woody Nook is all I'm saying! We did manage a hike along the old railway line and a hike around 10 mile dam, so there is plenty of opportunity to see the countryside. In the past we have drive through the Karri Forest off Caves road, which is an absolute must, and next time we are going to visit a few of the local caves.

The evenings were cool and quiet, the large plot giving plenty of privacy and the high vaulted roof conducting the heat of the day away. It was cool enough to light the wood burning stove, which gave a lovely warm romatic glow to the main room, which my wife particularly likes. There's plenty of wood in the shed, but I guess it won't be needed until next autumn now.

Westwood cottage is well equiped, and although it didn't rain, there is plenty of stuff to keep the family amused if you get stuck indoors or fancy a day off from the beach and the wineries. There is also a good paperback library, and I got through "Mattew Flinder's Cat" and would recommend it to anyone as a good holiday read.

We loved it and will be going back.
