Property Reviews

April 2017
This is the perfect stay for unwinding and reconnecting with family/ friends.
There is a lot to like about this accommodation. In terms of privacy, location and amenities, we would highly recommend it to anyone. We spent 5 days here with our grown family, using the time for reconnecting and getting better acquainted with our 15 month old granddaughter. The only reason I hesitate in giving this stay a rating of excellence, was the precarious nature of the spa bath/ shower. It is not easy to step into and is in need of a grab rail and a rubber bath mat inside the bath to prevent slippage. This is the only thing we found lacking, everything else was perfect and we hope to revisit next year with an additional grandchild in stow.

Stayed at Cowara House in September 2016 with my family and it was a great stay. Only 10 mins to local shops, so convienent location. House was very well apppointed so we could cook and have plenty of utensils etc to use. House was clean and gardens well maintained. Definitely stay again soon.

Great place for a family. Enjoyed every moment. Close to town but still secluded. Can't wait to head back.

Realising I had left it far too late to book a house for my family of 6 people, I appreciated 'House Down South' accommodating us in Cowaramup House  It was a perfect house to stay in for a family,  in a perfect location. The peaceful surroundings and the huge outdoor area made it easy to entertain a large number. Being close to Gracetown was a highlight

March 2015
We were five adults and one 4 year old child who stayed at Cowara House March 2015. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon and left on Wednesday morning. The house is set in beautiful gardens at the end of a long driveway and very private.  Inside the house was clean and tidy, there is a good kitchen and lots of space for dining inside and outside.  For later there are large sofas, a TV, books and board games and don't forget to go outside after dark and admire the night sky, there's no light pollution here and the sky at night is spectacular. We would definitely recommend Cowara House to our friends and family.

January 2015
The family enjoyed a great stay over the New Year break.  In particular the kids enjoyed riding up and down the long driveway and playing cricket on the large expanse of lawn.  The property is ideally centered to take advantage of both the attractions of Yallingup and Margaret River.  The house was fantastic with lots of room, quality appliances and a great outdoor area for evening meals.  We are sure to return in future.  D & S January, 2015

We stayed 7 nights at Cowara House and had a great time.
The house is perfect for hosting 2 couples with kids, there is enough room for everyone both inside and outside. It's greatly located and quiet. The house is very well appointed and the big alfresco is perfect for having a breakfast with the birds.
The place looks great also for winter with it's fireplace and the possibilty to close the alafresco with the outdoor blinds. We might book again and enjoy the region during winter.
Thanks to Justine for the smooth organisation.

My partner and I recently stayed at Cowara House (gracetown) for 6 nights.
The accommodation and gardens are very nice, very tidy and spacious living areas with outside entertainment areas , BBQ and verandah's
The location is very quiet and peaceful, ideal for a relaxing  getaway. The house has everything you might need except food and drink :)
House Down South were very helpful in arranging the booking at short notice.
Very enjoyable Mike & Monica.

Michael and I needed a relaxing time away from the hustle and bustle of our mining jobs! I spent about 2 months searching for the perfect place to stay in the beautiful area of Margaret River! I'm from Adelaide, so I was ultra excited! At first I wanted a beach shack, and then I wanted a rural scene!! But more than anything, I wanted a spa to relax in and a fireplace for the warmth and ambiance. I found Cowara, House Down South, and fell in love with it straight away - I'm not into ultra-trendy and modern houses, but rather, quaint and character-laden homes!

Cowara is perched between the beach and Busselton Highway, on an acre or so of land. The house is delightful inside, bursting with character, and little nooks and crannies!! The wooden floorboards were awesome and warm with the fire crackling in the background. The mezzanine floor was a wonderful hideaway, a place to relax and feel like you're lost in another world! I especially loved the whitewash walls and the many French doors to the outside world. We discovered a running creek at the bottom of the property with a pathway alongside and, up the top near the driveway, the cows next door came over to say hello and check out their new neighbours. The ensuite spa was lovely and we enjoyed relaxing and looking at the view while sipping on our glasses of wine!

We dined at Settlers Tavern and had the most perfect meals! We also dined at Sea Gardens Café, Prevelly, which surprised us with more delectable food!! Only once did we bother to cook a meal at the house!! We enjoyed lunch at the Cheeky Monkey Brewery, just up the road - it suited us more than the wineries, although the wineries all looked lovely! We spent a day down at Augusta at Cape Leewin and toured the lighthouse and heard about the history - it's amazing!! We didn't have time for the Caves, but I made sure we went to the beach for a walk!!

So thank you, Cowara, House Down South, as we had a wonderful time and would return at a minute's notice!!

We had a lovely break in Margaret River with Cowara House as our base. Only 10 minutes into Margaret River town and right near Caves Road meant we were in a great central location to access the town and its restaurants, the beach and all the wineries north and south of the house. The house is lovely and has big open living spaces. The fireplace was a must for us as we travelled in the colder months and heaps of firewood was supplied at the house. We had to shower in turns so not to compete with hot water but this wasn't a big problem. As we had been travelling, the laundry with washer and dryer was very handy.  There is no mobile or internet reception at the house. That's a plus for some people and a negative for others.  Reception around the whole region is patchy though so its not specifically an issue with just Cowara House.  There are some steep internal stairs up to a cool loft area with bean bags, games and morning sun. We have a climbing 18 month old so had to watch this as there wasn't a way to block it off. The house is furnished really nicely and has a great log cabin feel to it. Exactly what we were looking for. Beautiful, beautiful gardens.

Thank you for helping us to enjoy our recent visit to Western Australia.  Cowara House was a perfect base for our family of four to use as we explored the Margaret River region.  Centrally located, the house is a mile from the beach at Gracetown, near the towns of Margaret River, Yallingup and Cowaramup, and convenient to any number of wineries.  Our 10 and 13 year old daughters had numerous adventures in the three acres surrounding the house and particularly enjoyed spying on the cows and kangaroos nearby -- not to mention treats from Millers Ice Cream in town.  My wife was initially concerned about the lack of Internet connection but came to realize how nice it was to play board games and enjoy non-digital interactions with our kids and gaze at the stars at night.  I enjoy grilling and was impressed by the professional barbecue set up out back as well as the large kitchen.  There's a great butcher shop in Margaret River and near the house there's a deer farm with terrific venison -- I highly recommend the venison chorizo for pasta sauce.  Cowara House is a great place for a family or two couples who want to be near the wonders of such a beautiful region while away from the crowds.  The staff at Margaret River Holiday Houses were easy to work with -- we live in Vietnam and were able to arrange everything by email.  Thank you again for making this house available to us.

Sincerely Yours,

July 2013

this was our first stay at House Down South, specifically Cowara House. We absolutely loved it, we thought the house was charming and the location was perfect for us to start our daily trips from.

The design of the house allows for privacy when required but has great common areas to make use of. The open plan of the kitchen, dining and 'family' areas are very generous and spacious. The 2 bedrooms our group used were also very generous and spacious.

The settings are ideal, giving the house privacy and a feeling of getting away from it all which is what we wanted. The outdoor area is awesome although at this time of the year it was too cold to use except to cook a quick meal on the barbecue.

Everything we needed was provided for, which took the hassle out of our break from the city and meant we could relax and enjoy ourselves.

The lack of curtains in the main living areas is great for easy viewing of the outdoors and the bird and animal life. However it does contribute to heat loss and we found it difficult to warm the house for long periods. Not really a problem, just put on extra clothing!

If you want a suggestion to improve anything then we think the spa in the main ensuite should go and turn that into a proper shower recess. Put a spa under cover in the outdoor area, for up to 6 people and the place would be perfect. What better than sitting in a hot spa on a freezing night in the outdoors.

Great place to stay, thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and hope to be back again one day

March 2013
Our family loved our Easter getaway in this great house. Cool in the day, warm at night and very comfortable. Love it!

November 2012
Fantastic house!  Really enjoyed our stay and will definitely recommend to friends.  Great location for wineries and Margeret River. If I had to be critical, then I would mention that mobile phones do not work in the house.

Thanks for a great weekend!

October 2012
Excellent, good balance between value and facilities

April 2012
Conveniently located to all the wineries and 5 minutes to Gracetown beach.

House was extremely peaceful.

Perfect vacation if you want to getaway.

February 2012
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Cowara House and had a wonderful time.

The house was clean and very well equipped and we enjoyed use of the books and games. The book on guided walks was especially useful and we felt the information supplied about different activities within the local area was excellent. The grounds and outdoor eating area were particular favourites and were well kept and maintained. The abundance of local bird and wildlife was astonishing and we never tired of it.

Many thanks for such a fabulous break. I really cannot praise our stay enough and would not hesitate to recommend you to friends/family.

Many thanks once again

Chris Kelly
